Love your guys' show!!
Couple side notes:
Alaskans call spruce grouse "dumb birds" because most of them are deaf and cant hear so when you shoot one the rest dont run away. Lol but some good eat in! :)
Alaskan Seal skin coats are SO warm. They will keep you warmer than anything you could buy jacket wise in Alaska. As far as I know if the coat is premade when purchased, it is legal. I think Fast Cash Pawn was selling a couple of them (legally) lol. :)
To Mr. Ryan's mom:
I have been in Alaska just shy of 10 years and as far as game meat goes, there is NOTHING that beats a Musk Ox burger!! So yummy! My experience with moose meat, I found that the fresher the meat, the less gamie the meat tastes. If I get moose meat from any friend or aquaintence, I usually ask how long it has been stored for. That'll will tell me if Im actually gonna eat it or not. Lol.
It is SO much subsistence living here in Alaska. One thing that is really different here in Alaska is the laws for hunting and fishing. You must clean the animal where you kill it and leaves certain parts of the animal behind or you could see some very high fines. From my understanding this is due to native culture and respect of native land. But its a lot of work. But if its something of interest to learn about. DNR here locally allows locals with hunting licenses and you can have your name added to the list and when the troopers find a moose roadkill they will call you and ask if you would like to come out and watch and help clean it to learn and then they donate the road kill meat to local organizations
Living in Alaska is so awesome!!
Thanks for the comment Alisha!
We’re glad to hear from an Alaskan that has been here for a long time.
You weren’t supposed to give away our secret about how easy spruce grouse are to hunt because now we don’t look like mighty hunters. Lol
Some people at church have seal skin hats that I’ve tried on and you can tell they would be super warm. The leather and fur made the hat kind of heavy and it muffled my ears. Kind of felt like a light football helmet.
We have not harvested any big game yet, but we’re going to go after moose and caribou this year.
We love living in Alaska and look forward to many more years.
Thanks for listening!
Rodney and Ryan
Hahaha. Im sorry I gave your secret away but you both will always be mighty men :)
Men Of God
Big game is something in all my time here that I have not done. Im excited to hear how y'alls adventure with big game goes. :) something else yall will have to experience at some point is dipnetting. And not just any dippnetting.. But dipnetting in the Chitna River. Very dangerous because of the silt water but so much fun. :)
What an amazing experience.
Maybe we can all do a fly fishing trip sometime this summer. :)
